How to Play

WUZZY is a free browser word game played on a 5×5 grid of letter tiles. Each turn you slide the entire board in one direction — just like 2048 — and tiles that collide merge into new letter combinations. Your goal is to form words and score as many points as possible before the board fills up.

Swipe or press an arrow key

All tiles slide left, right, up, or down at once. On mobile, swipe the board in any direction. On desktop, use the arrow keys or WASD. After every swipe a new letter tile appears on the board.

Tiles merge when they collide

Two tiles that slide into each other combine their letters into one tile. Chain merges together to build longer, higher-value letter combinations across the grid.

Score the words you spot

After each move, WUZZY automatically scans the board for every valid 3–5 letter English word. Matched words appear as tappable chips below the grid. Tap a chip to score that word and remove its tiles — freeing up space for new letters. Press and hold a chip to look up its definition.

Longer words earn bigger bonuses

Every letter carries a Scrabble-style point value. Score a 3-letter word at face value, a 4-letter word at 3× multiplier, or a 5-letter word at a massive 10× multiplier. Hunting for five-letter words is the fastest path to a high score.

Keep the board alive

The game ends when the board is completely full and no valid move remains. Score words often to clear space, plan your swipes to avoid dead-end layouts, and keep an eye on the corners — that's where tiles tend to pile up.

Quick Tips

Don't wait for the "perfect" word — scoring a 3-letter word now is better than losing space trying to build a 5-letter word.
Swipe in two directions alternately (e.g. right then down) to keep tiles flowing toward a corner and create merges.
High-value letters like Q, Z, X, and J are rare — when they appear, build words around them for big points.
The board shows all valid words automatically, so focus your thinking on which word to score, not on finding them.

WUZZY was born from a simple question: what if you combined the satisfying tile-sliding mechanics of 2048 with the vocabulary challenge of a word game? The result is a puzzle that rewards both spatial thinking and a broad vocabulary — two very different mental muscles working together in every game.

Unlike most word games, WUZZY never asks you to type or drag individual letters. Instead you control the whole board at once, planning swipes that simultaneously shift tiles, create merges, and open up new word opportunities. A single swipe can change everything.

The game is free to play in your browser with no account, no sign-in, and no time limit. A native app is also available on iPhone and Android for offline play, with your high score saved locally on your device.
